JRuby & JVM

A decade ago, Java was the only game in down. If you were a developer, chances were you programmed in Java. You ran your applications on the Java platform. You used Java libraries. It was a simpler time.

Now, in 2009, everything is so complicated. Microsoft and Adobe have join the Java world in supporting cross-platform VMs and libraries.
There are a good dozen languages to choose from when building applications for the JVM. And with world markets in turmoil, the classic old Java skillset isn't enough anymore.

In this talk, we'll explore how JRuby represents this new age. An off-platform language with new ideas and new solutions to classic problems. A vibrant community responsible for dozens of books and conferences around the world, and hundreds of new libraries. And all this on top of the Java platform, with all the capabilities it offers.

We'll explore a few key app development domains, and show why Ruby will be your new favorite language.
