Jeff Genender

Apache Mina

Apache Mina

Mina is a TCP framework that allows you to write servers/clients based on NIO that are very high performance.  In fact Jeff was responsible for writing the AsyncHttpClient which scales astronomically (its a part of Mina) - and much better than anything else out there, including Commons HttpClient.  It's so good that apparently eBay uses it!

Mina basically allows you to write protocols with a few java classes, which allows you to write powerful servers and clients w/o a lick of needed to muck with TCP/Socket code.

Jeff told us "I've suggested Mina because its cool from a coding perspective and is a smaller open source project which is very interesting but that many developers may not be aware of. I hope to share the knowledge with the Irish Java community so that they can take it back and use the knowledge."
