IT Carlow Students at the IMTC 2008

The IJTC 2008 has launched an entirely new scheme aimed at our young Java developers - students.

We're asking Irish business to sponsor a student along to the Irish Java Technologies Conference - at just €50.00!

The future success of our software industry in Ireland is naturally dependent on our young people becoming the talented developers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Therefore, it's imperative to foster an engaging environment to encourage them in their knowledge at every possible opportunity.

Student Participation

Throughout the I'x'TC Series 2008, which has included the Irish Web Technology Conference, the Irish Microsoft Conference and the most recent Irish Open Source Technology Conference (See Review - http://IOTC.FirstPort.ie) we've been in constant communication with the universities, Institutes and the students themselves.

It's been good to see them coming from the likes of the National Universities of Maynooth and Galway, Queens University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and Cork and University of Limerick, Blanchardstown IT, Carlow IT, Dublin Institute of Technology, Dundalk IT, GMIT, IADT, Limerick ITSligo IT, Tallaght IT, Tipperary Institue, Tralee IT, Waterford IT - in fact just about all third level institutions and universities have been involved at one conference or another!

New to IJTC 2008

The positive feedback from student attendees indicates that they've enjoyed coming along, benefiting by meeting peers and being involved in the community at large.

Value

Throughout the IxTC Series 2008, there's been subsidised entrance for students, and at just €50.00 for two days of technology lectures, it's remarkable value. However, no matter how good the value, there is still additional cost of travel and accomodation should the students be coming from further afield which could be seen as a barrier to attend. So, to alleviate this, we've launched a 'Student Sponsorship Scheme!'

Student Sponsorship Scheme

Ireland's IT businesses are now being encouraged to put their hands in the purse and buy a ticket for Ireland's students, our next generation of developers. It's a fantastic opportunity to help mobilise the work force of tomorrow and be seen to invest in our country's future software community.

This sounds like a great idea. I'm doing Computer Science in Carlow IT and have been to a couple of the technology events in the series this year. I know from experience that going to any event can be costly. When you put together travel, accomodation and everything else, it can leave your pockets feeling empty.

As PR for TippSoc.ie - I'm always on the lookout for events we can attend at a reasonable cost. The IxTC series fits perfectly as its just a short train 'n Luas ride from Tipperary Institutes's Thurles Campus + we get to meet industry heavy weights all in a day! We normally take the last train home with some bottles of fizzy pop! Great to see the conference is going strong, its well worth paying for but as students its great if we can get it for nominal charge, free thats even better. We need books you know!

Thanks for your post Phil - you know I'm a fan of the Tipperary Institute and it's always a pleasure to see your students at the conferences. Best Barry PS Books? You still use those down there? :-)
